As a tourist in Hungary you should definately visit a typical market basket (one also says gypsy markets, although there met very few Gypsies).
Around Lake Balaton such markets are held in different cities over different weekdays. Typically Wednesday and Saturday.
On the southern shore of Lake Balaton is the most famous market located in Fonyód. This market, which is the greatest on the south shore, always takes place on Wednesday and Saturday.
Directions to Fonyód: Drive to the rail station in Fonyód, park there or turn left (if you do not come from the direction of Balatonlelle, you naturally turn to the right) and park there in the small streets and then just run – the market is not to be overlooked.
In Siofok you will also find several smaller markets in the city center. Also in Zamardi right on the road to Siofok.
A „must see“ in Siofok is of course the market with the huge selection of fruit & vegetables and all sorts of other things.
Directions to the Market Hall: Coming from Zamardi, turn left, right at the first traffic light after the town sign of Siofok. Then after the next intersection after about 150m turn right (before the bridge) and then park right there. The market hall is on the left side.
